The five-day programme covers all spectrums of oncology, including clinical picture, staging, prognostic factors, surgery, radiotherapy, systemic therapy, presentation and discussion of clinical cases. Participants will take tests on a daily basis.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT CONGRESS OF MEDICAL SCIENCES
2nd - 5th June 2009

The International Student Congress of Medical Sciences, ISCOMS, will take place from the 2nd till the 5th of June. The location of ISCOMS 2009 is the University Medical Center in Groningen, The Netherlands. Present your research at the ISCOMS, show your work to the world, discuss your results, participate in workshops or visit excellent key-note lectures of for example Nobel laureates Prof. Dr. Ferid Murad and Prof. Dr. Robin Warren! Or... attend the ISCOMS as a non presenter and have a look at the diverse world of (bio)medical research. As a non presenter you can participate at the congress, to expand your medical network and to get to know other medical students from all over the world.
Attention: non presenters can apply from the 1st of March 2009.

ISCOMS Travel Grant
Coming to a congress in the Netherlands can be expensive, especially when you live in another continent. That is why we can make a small contribution in the form of an ISCOMS Travel Grant. ISCOMS Travel grants are available for a limited number of persons and can only be rewarded to presenting participants. For application you need to give us an overview of your income and the expenses, which means accommodation, travel, plane ticket, etc. The deadline for application will be announced on our website. After the deadline, requests will be evaluated by our Travel Grant Committee. The number of grants that will be awarded and their respective amounts will be set based on the number of requests.
ISCOMS Research Fellowship
From Monday June 8 till Friday June 19 2009, the two weeks directly following the congress, the ISCOMS Research Fellowships (IRFs) will take place. In short, these are projects of 2 weeks in which foreign students who have actively participated at the ISCOMS, can participate in a research project in one of the research institutes at the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG).
Attention: It is important to know that we only have a limited amount of places for students to participate in these projects. Therefore, we have a special application procedure for the IRF-projects. When your abstract is accepted at the ISCOMS, you will receive information about how to apply for an IRF.

MEDICAL SUMMER SCHOOL, UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTER GRONINGEN
The University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG) organizes regular Summer Schools. These take place every year and are aimed towards international acknowledgement for medical education. The Summer Schools offer English-language courses during a period ranging of 2-3 weeks to approximately 20-40 foreign students, mainly pre-clinical students.
4 - 13 July 2009: Pediatrics Summer School
For who? Medical students
Course objective and description. During the course the pediatricians of the Beatrix Children’s Hospital will provide demonstration of patients, lectures, workshops etc. to point out several aspects of the subject. In general this means that the morning programme tends to be rather passive (patient demonstration, lectures) and the afternoon programme rather active (workshops, visits). The social program will include an introduction weekend in Groningen and a visit to Amsterdam (the last weekend).
Last year's topics were, metabolic diseases, cardiology, neonatology and intensive care, psychiatry and neurology.

4 - 13 July 2009: Clinical Neurology and Neurosurgery Summer School.
For who? Medical students in the last part of their educational programme
Course objective and description. The lectures are interactive and there are problem-solving conferences. Other activities are demonstrations of patients and site visits. This year’s course will give a general introduction to different aspects of neurology. Topics Lectures and workshops will be given in: neuromuscular diseases, multiple sclerosis, cerebral vascular diseases, neurodegenerative diseases, neurosurgery, neuropsychology, intensive care neurology, neuroimaging and pediatric neurology.

3 - 13 July 2009: Reproductive Health Summer School
Course objective and description. The Summer School Reproductive Health is an interactive 10 day summer school in Groningen, the Netherlands, where students across the globe will learn the basics and more advanced topics of reproductive health. This year the Summer School Reproductive Health has one central subject, namely Sexual Health. Also you will also get to know the Dutch way of ‘having fun’ through an exciting social program. Another goal is to get familiar with the Dutch way of life and culture and meet many new friends!
During the Summer School Reproductive Health various topics will be taught and discussed. Examples of these topics are: sexually transmittable diseases and aids, prenancy, labour and complications, urology, gynecology, conception abd birth control in an interactive way, ethics, religion, anthropology and many more. The lectures will be given in an interactive way. Many workshops, excursions and patient demonstrations will also be present.
